What is GCRF?
GCRF is known as Global Challenges Research Fund which supports cutting-edge research that address the challenges faced by developing countries. GCRF aims to strengthen the capability for research and innovation within both the UK and developing countries, providing an agile response to emergencies where there is an urgent research need.
As part of UK’s Official Development Assistance Strategy, £1.5 billion fund was announced by the UK Government in late 2015. The Strategy aims to:
- Promote challenge-led disciplinary and interdisciplinary research
- Strengthen capacity for research, innovation and knowledge exchange in the UK and developing countries
- Provide an agile response to emergencies where there is an urgent research need
